Cloud 9 Hosts Chief Technical Officer, Magesh Panchanathan, believes that Virgin Media plans to connect thousands of firms to its network are a fantastic idea.
One of the serious problems facing smaller and medium size business over the past few years is connectivity, or rather lack of connectivity. There have been issues for many business parks, affected by slow internet connection speeds, whilst network infrastructure is being upgraded. Virgin Media has launched Project Lightning, to connect thousands of firms in business parks as part of its £3 billion network expansion, starting with two locations in Andover in Hampshire.
The problems affecting office buildings and business parks has bee caused by just having analogue connections over copper cable, but we’ve recently seen BT rolling out their fibre to the premises technology, and now this investment from Virgin Media.
Companies now increasingly be able to source a high speed internet connection, without the expense of dedicated fibre lines, resulting in better internet speeds. This benefits for the business will be huge, from the higher data speeds. Companies will be able to do more, such as Cloud Computing, off site backup and off site data storage for disaster recovery.
“As a leading UK provider of Private Cloud Computing, the improved connection speed will open up our technology to a large number of new potential customers” said Panchanathan,
